A 16 inch steel needle is thrust completely through a large see-thru balloon. The audience can actually see the needle inside the balloon. The needle is pulled completely through, threading a cord onto the balloon.

This is the way they get the strings on the balloons at the circus. But they must sew them very carefully or the balloon with break.
